India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shared a cryptic post on social media amid talks about his uncertain future in Tests after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The 36-year-old shared a picture of his jersey from the back on his latest Instagram story, shared on Friday, January 10.

Jadeja managed an underwhelming performance with the bat and ball in the five-game series. The left-arm spinner bagged just four wickets in the three matches, going wicketless in the third and fifth Test in Brisbane and Sydney, respectively.

With the bat, the left-hander looked solid with 77 in Brisbane but returned with below-par scores of 17 & 2 and 26 & 13 in the fourth and fifth Test where the Men in Blue lost by 184 runs and six wickets, respectively.

The Saurashtra all-rounder, however, was rock solid with the ball during the home series. He bagged 16 wickets in three Tests against New Zealand and nine scalps versus Bangladesh in the two-match Test series.

After Ravichandran Ashwin’s international retirement, Jadeja remains the most experienced spinner for India, especially in the home conditions. Team India also has other options like Washington Sundar and Axar Patel.

Sanjay Bangar on selection issues as India lose 1-3 to Australia in 2024-25 BGT

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar slammed the team management for their combination after they surrendered the 2024-25 BGT Test series 1-3 in Australia. The 52-year-old questioned the place of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar with Nitish Reddy in the playing XI.

Bangar recently told Star Sports (via The Tribune):

“Nitish Reddy's unexpected performance put the team in a dilemma. The combination of Nitish Reddy with Washington Sundar or Ravindra Jadeja created confusion.”
“When there is an in-form player, it's hard to drop him. The team management seemed to react as the series progressed rather than being proactive. On those pitches, decisions should have been made based on the immediate requirements. A more proactive approach could have resulted in better team combinations,” he added.

Jadeja already retired from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup glory. He has not played in ODIs since the 2023 World Cup. Ajit Agarkar, Chairman of the Selection Committee, had cleared the air, citing Jadeja was rested for the ODI series in Sri Lanka in August 2024.

It remains to be seen whether the all-rounder gets picked for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
