Anvay Dravid, son of former Indian cricketer and head coach Rahul Dravid, made a mark for himself by scoring his first hundred for Karnataka in the under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy on Friday, December 13.
Playing for Karnataka U16 at the DVR Ground in Mulapadu against Jharkhand U16, Anvay slammed an unbeaten ton batting at No. 4. He remained unbeaten on 100 off 153 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and a couple of sixes.
His unbeaten ton propelled Karnataka to a first-innings lead against Jharkhand and earn three points as the game eventually ended in a draw.
Openers Arya Gowda and skipper Dhruv Krishnan also scored hundreds for Karnataka, putting up a 229-run stand and setting the platform before Anvay Dravid also cashed in with his unbeaten century.
Anvay Dravid's steady growth at the junior level
Anvay Dravid has been making steady strides at the junior level so far. The hundred against Jharkhand was his third appearance in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. He had scored 75 runs combined in his previous two innings, which also included a half-century.
Anvay was also named as Karnataka's captain for the under-14 age group tournaments last year. Four years ago in 2020, he scored an exceptional fifty in the semi-final of the BTR Shield Under-14 Group I match. He missed out on a well-deserved century by just ten runs.
Anvay, the 15-year-old wicket-keeper batter, has already made a name for himself after his consistent performances and run-scoring for Karnataka at the Under-14 level.
Anvay Dravid is following the footsteps of not just his father but also his elder brother Samit Dravid, who has also represented Karnataka in various age group tournaments so far. Moreover, Samit was also a part of the Mysuru Warriors team in the Maharaja Trophy that was held in August earlier this year.
