Team India batter Rinku Singh was at his blistering best in the second T20I against Bangladesh in Delhi on October 9. After being asked to bat first by Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Men in Blue struggled against some excellent pace-bowling in the powerplay.
The hosts were reduced to 41/3 in 5.3 overs when Rinku walked out to the middle. He immediately got going and bailed India out of trouble with a breathtaking 53 off 29 deliveries.
The innings included five boundaries and three maximums, including a stunning six behind the wicket-keeper to bring up his third T20I half-century. Despite missing out on India's squad for the triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup, Rinku has been arguably India's best short format batter since his debut last year.
The southpaw averages an outstanding 58.87 in 25 T20I games at a strike rate of 175.09.
Rinku's latest display drew plenty of celebratory reactions from fans on Twitter:
Fans continued celebrating Rinku for his masterful knock with one saying:
"Rinku Singh and Hardik should be our finishers for next Wt20 as well as Odi CWC too."
"Rinku Singh's inning was a masterclass in resilience and power, transforming the match with his aggressive yet composed batting," said a fan.
"Promoted Rinku Singh when India was in trouble and he rescued India. Gautam Gambhir smiles says it all," a fan tweeted.
Rinku Singh's heroics propels India to formidable total
Rinku Singh's half-century helped dig India out of a hole at 41/3 and finish on a formidable 221/9 in 20 overs.
The left-hander combined with Nitish Reddy to add 108 for the fourth wicket as India took apart the Bangladesh spinners in the middle overs. Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag added quick-fire cameos of 32 and 15, respectively, to take India past the 200-run mark.
The Men in Blue won the series opener by seven wickets in under 12 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three affair.
The T20 World champions have Bangladesh on the mat at 70/4 in ten overs and look to be on course for an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
