The 10th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) took place between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Stadium on Friday, April 7.
SRH skipper Aiden Markram, leading the side for the first time, won the toss and opted to bat first. The Orange Army had a new opening combination of Mayank Agarwal and Anmolpreet Singh.
Despite LSG playing without Mark Wood and Avesh Khan, their spinners made up for their absence by strangling the SRH batters at all ends, especially in the middle overs. None of the SRH batters were able to adapt to the wicket and failed to gather any sort of momentum.
Rahul Tripathi donned the role of the anchor battling the LSG spin trio, and the side could eventually only muster 121/8, that too after a rapid cameo from Abdul Samad.
KL Rahul anchored the run chase, helping the team get home with relative ease. They had moments of uncertainty after SRH pulled back with two quick wickets. However, a solid partnership between Rahul and Krunal Pandya got the side close to the target, which was ultimately reached with four overs to spare to boost their net run rate.
IPL 2023 Orange Cap updated list
The outing on the Lucknow pitch was one to forget for the majority of batters. Only four SRH batters were able to get to double figures, and coupled with their disastrous outing in the first game, it is no surprise that none of them is among the top-10 run-getters in IPL 2023 so far.
Kyle Mayers narrowly missed out on the Orange Cap after being dismissed for 13 by Fazalhaq Farooqi in the fifth over. He now has 139 runs after three matches and holds onto the second spot behind Ruturaj Gaikwad, who remains at the top with 149 runs.
IPL 2023 Purple Cap updated list
It was a field outing for the spinners on the turning Lucknow pitch, and they fully capitalized on it.
With the wicket of Harry Brook, Ravi Bishnoi overtook Varun Chakravarthy on the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list to claim second spot. The leg-spinner now has six wickets in three matches. He is only two behind his teammate Mark Wood.
The speedster missed the game against the SunRisers due to illness but is still the Purple Cap holder with eight wickets off two matches.
