The Lucknow Super Giants secured the third place in the IPL 2023 points table with a one-run win against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, May 20. The Lucknow-based franchise needed a victory to seal their place in the playoffs, and they succeeded, with the narrowest possible margin.
Kolkata Knight Riders had to chase the 177-run target inside nine overs to give themselves a small chance of qualifying for the playoffs. However, KKR finished with 176 runs in 20 overs, losing their final league stage match of the season by one run.
Courtesy of this result, the Lucknow Super Giants have earned the 'Q' tag in the IPL 2023 points table. They have finished behind the Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings in the standings.
Kolkata Knight Riders finish 7th in IPL 2023 points table
Kolkata Knight Riders have failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Kolkata-based franchise attained the seventh spot in the standings, having recorded six wins and eight losses in 14 matches.
Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the three teams below them. While PBKS are confirmed to finish eighth, DC could slip to the 10th spot on Sunday if SRH defeat the Mumbai Indians.

Gujarat Titans will play their final league stage match of the season against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. GT can end the league stage with 20 points if they beat RCB. Meanwhile, Bangalore need a win to finish in the Top 4 of the points table.
Mumbai Indians will also be in action on Sunday, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. MI are currently sixth in the standings, but if they record a big win, they can make it to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see which team completes the Top 4.
