The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 68th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Saturday, May 18, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. CSK won the toss and elected to bowl.
Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis provided a solid start to RCB and added 78 runs for the first wicket. Du Plessis emerged as the highest scorer and made 54 runs off 39 deliveries.
RCB posted a total of 218 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur was the pick of the bowlers and took two wickets for 61 runs in four overs. RCB required to restrict CSK to 200 runs at the end of the 20th over to qualify for the playoffs.
CSK lost the wicket of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for a duck. Rachin Ravindra played a fiery knock of 61 runs off 37 deliveries but was run out in the 13th over. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni tried their best to complete the job for the five-time champions.
CSK scored just 191 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs and RCB won the match by 27 runs. RCB became the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs. They will play the eliminator match on Wednesday, May 22.
