Former Team India all-rounder and spin ace Ravichandran Ashwin hit back at trolls who targeted him in the comments section of one of his posts on his official social media account. The incident took place today (Monday, December 30).

Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18 after the third Test at The Gabba, Brisbane, ended in a draw. He returned to India soon after making the announcement and was given a hero's welcome at his residence. In recent days, Ashwin has been active on social media, sharing his two cents on the various topics of the game.

Earlier today, Ashwin put out a post on his official X account that read:

"Good leaders emerge when they show resolve for a scrap."

A few fans took the aforementioned post in a bad spirit and were quick to rebuke the 38-year-old. In a calm and collective response, Ashwin quoted the post with the following reply:

"This tweet isn’t for people who own fan clubs."

"Grand sendoffs are a part of super celebrity culture" - R Ashwin on his retirement midway through BGT 2024-25

Ravichandran Ashwin called it a day on his international career in the post-match press conference after the third Test at The Gabba ended in a draw due to persistent showers. After his return to India, Ashwin said he was content and that he believed it was wrong for cricketers to have a grand farewell. He said (via India Today):

"As far as I am concerned, grand farewells are wrong. I don't think you should give grand farewell ceremonies to anyone. Especially, I firmly believe that you shouldn't give me a grand farewell. I don't want anyone shedding a drop of tear for me. I think grand send-offs are part of a super celebrity culture."
"I understand we run behind someone for the love we have for them. But I feel that people should get inspired by one's achievements, the legacy that one leaves behind, the way one left the game, and the way one has spoken about the game. But farewells are wrong, I think," he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin will play for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Whether he plays for Tamil Nadu in the next round of Ranji Trophy matches remains to be seen.
