Team India's Virat Kohli's underwhelming run in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup continued as he was dismissed cheaply in the semifinals against England in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. He managed to score just nine runs off as many deliveries.

Popular Indian actor Ayushman Khurana extended his support to Virat Kohli, shutting down the trolls who targeted the ace batter for the failure. He emphasized that the former India captain is capable of performing in any position.

Suggesting that Kohli's lean phase won't continue for long, Khurana wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle:

"Dear naysayers, Kohli is a legend. He can rock at any position. It’s just a temporary lean patch. His class is permanent. Chill maadi."

Kohli was in stunning form ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. He won the Orange Cap in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, chalking up 741 runs across 15 innings.

However, he has failed to continue his imperious run in the ongoing showpiece event, scoring just 75 runs from seven innings at an average of 10.71.

Virat Kohli was dismissed by Reece Topley in the IND vs ENG 2024 T20 T20 World Cup semifinals

The onus was on Virat Kohli to deliver an impactful knock in the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals against England on Thursday. He gave the Indian supporters hope by hitting an authoritative six over mid-wicket off Reece Topley's bowling in the third over of the innings.

However, the seasoned campaigner perished in the same over. He lost his wicket while trying to play yet another shot towards mid-wicket. Kohli was beaten with the inward movement and the ball ended up hitting the leg stump. Kohli was visibly gutted by the dismissal and was seen sporting a sullen look in the dugout.

Meanwhile, the winner of the India vs England contest will compete against South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final on Saturday, July 29.
