Jaker Ali has been ruled out of Bangladesh's second Test against South Africa due to a concussion. The 26-year-old suffered a concussion while training at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday, October 27. The hosts have named Mahidul Islam Ankon as a replacement.

The second Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and South Africa will be played in Chattogram from Tuesday, October 29. The Proteas emerged victorious by seven wickets in the first Test of the series played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Giving an update on Jaker's unavailability for the second Test against South Africa, Bangladesh's physio Bayjedul Islam Khan was quoted as telling ESPNcricinfo:

"Jaker Ali suffered a concussion while batting in practice yesterday (Sunday). He has a history of concussions and is still showing symptoms. Given his previous concussion record, recovery may take some time. Based on the clinical findings, he has been ruled out of the second Test."

Incidentally, Jaker made his Test debut in the first game of the ongoing series against the Proteas. He was stumped for two off left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj in the first innings. The right-handed batter, though, scored a defiant 58 off 111 in the second essay, a knock that featured seven fours.

Jaker has been a part of 19 T20Is and scored 254 runs at a strike rate of 116.51, with a best of 68. His replacement for the second Test against South Africa, Mahidul, has earned his maiden call-up to the Bangladesh team. The 25-year-old scored 118 for Dhaka Division against Sylhet Division in a National Cricket League match played in Khulna from October 19 to October 22.

Overall, Mahidul has the experience of 43 first-class matches and 83 List A games, scoring 1,934 and 2,851 runs respectively. He has notched up three hundreds each in both first-class and List A cricket.
