India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Series for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), making history as the first Indian player to achieve this feat in three SENA countries. Meanwhile, Australia secured the series 3-1, sealing their victory with a dominant six-wicket win in Sydney.

Bumrah was absent during the fourth innings of the fifth Test against Australia due to a back spasm. Despite this, he was the standout performer of the series, finishing with 32 wickets in nine innings, an impressive average of 13.06, and three five-wicket hauls.

The 31-year-old also made history by surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi's 47-year-old record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an away Test series.

His outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Series award, making him the only Indian cricketer to achieve this feat against three SENA countries.

Bumrah claimed the prestigious honor during India's 2022-23 tour of England, where he took 23 wickets in five matches. He also won the award during India's 2023-24 tour of South Africa, having taken 12 wickets in two matches.

“A little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body” - Jasprit Bumrah provides fitness update following BGT 2024-25 5th Test

Stand-in Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah addressed his decision not to bowl during the fourth innings of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy fifth Test, stressing the need to listen to and respect his body's limits. Speaking at the post-match conference, the 31-year-old, who was named Player of the Series, said:

"A little frustrating but sometimes you have to respect your body, and you can't fight your body. Sometimes you have to accept. Would have loved to bowl on the spiciest wicket of the series. Just had a little discomfort after the first innings."
“The chatter was about belief. The other bowlers stepped up in the first innings as well. This morning the chat was also about belief. Lots of ifs and buts. The whole series was well-fought. Today also we were there. It was a well-fought series,” he added.

Bumrah has represented India in 45 Tests, taking 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
