Team India bowler Prasidh Krishna revealed that Jasprit Bumrah is dealing with a back spasm, and is currently being monitored by the medical staff after Day 2 of the fifth Border-Gavaskar series Test in Sydney. The bowling spearhead went off the field right at the start of the final session, presumably to the hospital for scans.

Bumrah had delivered the early breakthrough for India after a heated finish to Day 1 on Friday. The right-arm pacer dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for two runs in the first session, and bowled 10 overs in total, conceding 33 runs. In his absence, it was up to the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Nitish Reddy to clean up the Australian lower order.

Australia were bundled out for 181 runs in their first innings, giving India a marginal lead of four runs. The Men in Blue were placed at 141-6 at Stumps and will need Bumrah's services with both bat and ball tomorrow, in what could be the final day of the tour as well.

However, it remains to be seen to what extent Bumrah can function in the final innings, considering the back injury.

Bumrah's workload had been a nagging concern all series. With the scoreline evenly poised, India have not had a chance to rest their premium pacer so far. The early finishes in the initial leg of the series, coupled with the drawn affair in Brisbane allowed some workload management on the go.

However, a grueling 53-over mammoth shift in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, coupled with just a couple of days break until the series finale, became a factor in the end.

"No particular number in mind. We are ready to bowl whatever is in front of us" - Prasidh Krishna

India currently have a lead of 145 runs with four wickets in hand. The left-handed pair of Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are currently out in the middle as the last recognized batting pair for the team.

The green top in Sydney has shown no signs of easing up or slowing down as the match has progressed. With the process of determining a safe or an ideal target deemed tough, India will have to make do with whatever they end up with on Day 3.

"As many runs as possible would be great for us. No particular number in mind. We are ready to bowl whatever is infront of us. The team is pumped up. We are confident about the plans and are here for the fight," Prasidh Krishna added

India need a win to level the series 2-2 and retain the Border-Gavaskar series. Australia, on the other hand, need a win to claim the series outright for the first time in a decade.
