Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has set a new record by attaining the highest rating points by an Indian in the latest men’s ICC Test rankings for bowlers, released on Wednesday (January 1). Bumrah has now gone past Ravichandran Ashwin’s 904 rating points. The legendary off-spinner had achieved the landmark in December 2016.
Bumrah’s rise came after his nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul, in the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne, stretching his tally to 30 scalps in the five-game series Down Under.
Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins also surged 15 rating points table to sit at No. 3 after bagging six wickets in the Boxing Day clash. Meanwhile, his scores of 49 and 41 helped him secure a third spot in the list of all-rounders in the latest ICC Test rankings.
Similarly, Proteas pacer Marco Jansen jumped six rungs to sit in fifth place following his seven wickets as South Africa beat Pakistan in the Centurion Boxing Day Test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has risen to his career-best fourth place in the latest men’s ICC Test rankings for batters. This came as the left-hander smashed 82 and 84 against Australia in Melbourne. Meanwhile, SA skipper Aiden Markram broke into the top 20 among batters after scores of 89 and 37 in the series opener against Pakistan.
Other notable movers were Steve Smith (up three spots to seventh), Saud Shakeel (up three rungs to career-best sixth), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (up 20 places to 53). Afghanistan players Rahmat Shah surged 21 spots to 52 and Hashmatullah Shahidi rose 25 rungs to joint 57 following their double centuries in the drawn Test against Zimbabwe.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli dropped three spots to 24th following his 36 and 5 in the fourth Test against Australia. India captain Rohit Sharma followed the downward trend, dropping five places to 40th after returning with 3 and 9 in the same contest.
In the latest men's T20I rankings for batters, here are a few key movers – Sean Williams (up 10 places to 19), Craig Ervine (up five spots to joint 47), Pathum Nissanka (gained three places to close in on top five batters).
Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner jumped into the top 10 while Brian Bennett broke into the top 100 among bowlers in the latest ICC T20I rankings.
