England pacer Jofra Archer has returned to his former franchise Rajasthan Royals as they shelled out ₹12.50 crore for him in the ongoing auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The right-arm speedster last played in the cash-rich league in the 2023 edition, plying his trade for the Mumbai Indians.
Archer had entered the auction ahead of the 2023 edition with a base price of ₹2 crore and the the Mumbai Indians pouched him for ₹8 crore. However, he played only five matches, taking two wickets before being ruled out of the season due to an injury. The 29-year-old found himself out of all forms of cricket since March 2023 and returned to the international arena ahead of T20 World Cup 2024.
The Barbadian had gathered the spotlight due to his pace ahead of IPL 2018 and hence was signed by the Royals. Overall in 40 matches, he has claimed 48 scalps at 24.4 apiece alongside an economy rate of 7.43.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old had also earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in IPL 2020. In 14 matches, he took 20 wickets at 18.25 alongside a sensational economy rate of 6.25. However, his efforts went in vain as the Royals finished at the very bottom of the points table.
As for their performance in the 2024 edition, the Royals reached the playoffs but began losing steam in the latter half of the group stage. Sanju Samson and co. beat the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Eliminator; however, they followed it up by losing to the SunRisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier.
The players retained by the Royals ahead of the auction were Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. The 2025 edition of IPL begins on March 14.
