Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh recently made a shocking revelation, disclosing that he went to Kapil Dev's residence with a pistol after being dropped from the Indian and domestic cricket teams. He recalled how he threatened to shoot a bullet in the 1983 World Cup-winning captain's head.
Yograj stated that he was furious with his friend's betrayal and wanted to teach him a lesson. The 66-year-old suggested that he restrained himself from pulling the trigger of the pistol just because of Dev's mother.
Speaking on the podcast 'Unfiltered by Samdhish', Yograj said (quoted as saying by Indian Express):
"When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason. My wife (Yuvi’s mother) wanted me to ask Kapil questions. I told her that I would teach this bloody man a lesson."
"I took my pistol out, I went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him because of you I have lost a friend and what you have done, you will pay for it. I told him, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother, who is standing here.’ I told Shabnam, ‘Let’s go.’ That was the moment I decided I would not play cricket, Yuvi will play."
Dev was recently asked to comment on Yograj's viral comments. The legendary all-rounder, however, acted like he didn't know who Yograj was. Here's how the cricketer-turned-expert responder:
"Kaun hai ye? Kiski baat kar rahe ho (Who is he? Who ae you talking about)?"
Yograj Singh played six ODIs and a solitary Test for India. After failing to make a mark at the highest level, he took it upon himself to make his son, Yuvraj Singh, a successful cricketer.
"I told him, I'll leave you in a position where the world would spit on you" - Yograj Singh on Kapil Dev
During an interview with Zee Switch in September of last year, Yograj Singh launched a scathing attack on Kapil Dev. He pointed out how Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, while Dev just has the 1983 World Cup.
Yograj said:
"The greatest captain of our time, Kapil Dev... I told him, I'll leave you in a position where the world would spit on you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has 13 trophies, and you have only one, the World Cup [1983]. End of discussion."
It is worth mentioning that Yograj Singh has often grabbed headlines with his controversial statements. He has also previously criticized the likes of MS Dhoni and the late Bishan Singh Bedi.
