Indian cricketer Karun Nair continued his remarkable run of form in domestic cricket. He scored his fourth century in the ongoing 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Vidarbha against Uttar Pradesh in a Round 6 match on Friday, January 3, at Vizzy Stadium in Vizianagaram. In the process, he set a new world record for the most consecutive List A runs without being dismissed.
The 33-year-old began the tournament on a strong note, scoring an unbeaten 112 against Jammu and Kashmir. In the second game against Chhattisgarh, the skipper remained not out on 44. He then followed up with two consecutive centuries, scoring 163* against Chandigarh and 111* against Tamil Nadu.
On January 3, Vidarbha played against Uttar Pradesh, who posted 307 runs while batting first, driven by Sameer Rizvi's 105-run innings. In response, Karun Nair led from the front, scoring an impressive 112 off 101 balls before getting dismissed by Bihari Rai.
Nair's fourth century of the tournament, and third consecutive one, helped him surpass New Zealand's James Franklin's record of 527 runs for the most consecutive List A runs without being dismissed. Nair now holds the world record with 542 runs.
Meanwhile, Nair received solid support from Yash Rathod, who remained unbeaten on 138 off 140 balls, striking 15 boundaries and one six. Vidarbha went on to win the match by eight wickets with 16 balls to spare. With this victory, Vidarbha now lead Group D with five wins from as many games.
Karun Nair is the only player, aside from Virender Sehwag, to have scored a triple-century for India in Tests
Karun Nair made his Test debut for India in 2016 against England, scoring just four runs in his first innings. However, in his third Test, against the same team, he delivered a remarkable performance, scoring an unbeaten 303 off 381 balls at MA Chidambaram Stadium. With this achievement, he became only the second Indian, after Virender Sehwag, to score a triple century in Test cricket.
The 33-year-old has represented India in six Test matches, accumulating 374 runs. Additionally, he has played in two ODIs, scoring a total of 46 runs.
