India opener KL Rahul was dismissed for another low score in the second innings of the fifth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test on Saturday (January 4) in Sydney. Rahul scored just 13 runs off 15 deliveries, striking a couple of boundaries before Scott Boland sent him back.

Even in the first innings of the ongoing Test, the Indian opener managed to score just four runs off 14 deliveries. Having begun the series well, KL Rahul failed to finish on a high. Particularly in an important game as the fifth Test with India looking to level the series, his failure has drawn criticism.

The 32-year-old was expected to perform in this crucial game but flopped in both the innings. Following his disappointing efforts, even fans did not hold back, slamming the batter on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

A fan brutally criticized the opener, comparing KL Rahul's BGT campaign to Indian actor Rahul Roy's career. The comparison reflects upon KL starting the series on a high but not ending on a positive note.

"KL Rahul's BGT has become like Rahul Roy's career, starting with a bang and ending with mediocrity. There's a reason he has an average of 33 in his Test career despite being such a talented player."

Another fan expressed that Rahul's batting is a mystery, stating that the batter looks flawless at one point but is dismissed the moment next.

"KL Rahul batting is a mystery to everyone, he looks flawless one moment and the next, he is back in the dressing room, out of nowhere. 30.66 - His Batting Average in BGT 33.57 - His overall Career Average," the tweet read.

One fan went to the extent of calling the Indian opener 'fraud' for failing to deliver with the bat. The fan also went on to blame Rahul for forcing Rohit Sharma to let go of his opening slot.

"Never forget this fraud KL Rahul first made India lose worldcup and then forced Rohit Sharma to leave his opening spot. Now I want India to win 5th test and Australia to lose against SL so we can see Rohit Sharma opening in WTC final 🤲,"

Another user questioned Rahul's batting, stating that the opener only makes big scores when his spot is on the line. The user expressed disappointment over Rahul failing to score big when he had to cement his spot in the side.

"Seriously, what is it with KL Rahul and the big scores only when his spot is in scanner? When it's time to cement his place, it's either low scores or injuries that follow. Baffling," the user wrote.

Rahul has had a good series. However, he has failed in the last few innings. Another fan expressed disappointment over the same.

"Inside edge and gone. 💔 It's good series for KL Rahul except last 2-3 innings," the fan tweeted.

One fan took a sly dig at Rahul with a rather cryptic tweet.

"KL Rahul, come out, we need to have a sweet chat over koffee," the tweet read.

The Indian opener has been considered among India's best batters in overseas Tests. However, after his low scores in the fifth Test, a user trolled the batter for the same belief.

"Overseas Specialist Kl Rahul 😭," the fan wrote.

How did KL Rahul fare in the BGT 2024-25 series with the bat?

KL Rahul began the BGT 2024-25 series on a positive note. At one point, he was also India's leading run-scorer in the series. He got close to scoring a century as well, with a best score of 84.

The right-hander eventually ended the series with 276 runs from 10 innings. He finished with an average of 30.66 with two half-centuries in total.

The Indian opener had 235 runs after three Tests. However, he failed to build on his performance in the last two Tests. Therefore, Rahul has drawn criticism for not being consistent enough and not finishing the series as he started it.
