The stylish batter lived up to expectations, scoring 26 and 77 in the two innings. In India's second innings, he formed a 201-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, the highest by an Indian pair on Australian soil, as the visitors won by 295 runs.

While Rohit returned to the team, Rahul continued to open the innings in the next two games, amassing 132 runs, including a half-century.
