Former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin shared his thoughts on the Virat Kohli vs Sam Konstas controversy during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. In Haddin's view, Konstas took advantage of Kohli's frustration and got under his skin.
Kohli struggled against the fourth stump line deliveries in the series against Australia. He repeated the same mistake over and over again, losing his wicket to outside the off-stump balls.
Speaking on Willow Talk, Brad Haddin opined that Kohli was frustrated because everyone knew how Australia would take his wicket. According to Haddin, that frustration led to Kohli having heated exchanges with 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas.
"He (Sam Konstas) got under Kohli's skin. Kohli was frustrated... Kohli was frustrated with his game. He came out to bat, everyone in every commentary box said, Australia are going to bowl on fourth or fifth stump, they will play on Kohli's patience and he got out the same way every time." "He fell for the same plan all the time. On this occasion, the young kid got under his skin. He [Kohli] reacted in a way, if you were sitting in the change room, you would have said, we've got 'em here, we've broken the back of India."
Haddin further mentioned that he had not seen a 35-year-old player having a shoulder bump with a 19-year-old debutant on a cricket field before.
Brad Haddin says he would love to see Virat Kohli score 700 runs in the Test series against England
India will play their next Test series against England away from home in June later this year. Willow Talk's podcast host said he would love to see Virat Kohli return to form and score 700 runs in the Tests against England. Brad Haddin quickly agreed with him and said:
"Yes, yeah."
It will be interesting to see if Virat can make a comeback with the bat in the Tests against England. He will have to work hard on the deliveries bowled outside the off stump because the English pacers will try to exploit his weakness in the swing-friendly conditions.
