It was a fascinating day of cricket in the Kolkata T20 Tournament 2024 as two matches were played on the third day of the competition. The MGR Sports Academy in Bara Gunsima hosted both matches on Saturday, January 13.

Kalimpong Falcons took on Purba Medinipur Dragons in the first match of the day followed by a contest between Alipurduar Thunders and Combined Avengers.

Purba Medinipur Dragons registered their second win in the competition with a four-wicket victory over Kalimpong Falcons. Meanwhile, Alipurduar Thunders made light work of Combined Avengers to complete a massive 60-run win.

With this win, Thunders have reached the top of the standings with four points in two matches. Dragons are now second with four points in two games. However, Thunders have a net run rate of +2.050 in comparison to Dragons’ net run rate of +1.012.

Jhargram Firebolts are still third with two points in two matches and Kalimpong Falcons are still fourth. However, the latter’s net run rate took a toll and dipped to -0.293 after a loss on Saturday.

Darjeeling Unstoppables and Combined Avengers have notched up two defeats in as many matches, respectively, and sit at the bottom of the points table.

Prabir Sutradhar leads Alipurduar Thunders’ charge with a magnificent knock of 87

In the first game, Kalimpong Falcons batted first but only managed to score 121/9 in 20 overs. It was a combined effort from the bowlers of Purba Medinipur Dragons as three of them bagged two wickets each.

Chasing the target, opener Rahul Jha played a brilliant knock of 63 off 51 balls. The middle order stuttered a bit but they eventually reached the target in 17.4 overs with four wickets in hand.

In the second match, Alipurduar Thunders batted first and their opener Prabir Sutradhar exploded at the top. He scored 87 runs off 54 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and four maximums. Courtesy of some handy contributions from the middle order as well, the Thunders posted a massive total of 189/4 in 20 overs.

Combined Avengers failed to reciprocate in the pressure chase as they were bundled out for 129 in 16.2 overs. Jograj Sha was the star with the ball as he finished with the figures of 4/24 in four overs.
