Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has given rise to a new controversy after his allegations against head coach Gautam Gambhir. He accused Gambhir of abusing his family. He also termed Gambhir a 'hypocrite' following the loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

Notably, the two cricketers have played a fair bit with each other. Both Tiwary and Gambhir represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Manoj Tiwary played for KKR from 2010 to 2013. He played the last three years under the captaincy of Gambhir. This was also during the period when Gambhir led the Knight Riders to their maiden IPL title in 2012.

The right-handed batter played 98 IPL matches and scored 1695 runs at an average of 28.72 and strike-rate of 116.97. He scored seven half-centuries with a best score of an unbeaten 75.

Following his recent comments on Gambhir, let us take a look at his IPL record under the former KKR skipper at the franchise.

Looking back at Manoj Tiwary's IPL record under Gautam Gambhir at KKR

Gautam Gambhir captained the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011 to 2017. During his stint, he led KKR to two IPL titles, winning the final in 2012 and 2014. Manoj Tiwary played for KKR from 2010 to 2013.

However, out of his four seasons, he played three under Gambhir's captaincy from 2011 to 2013. In 2011, Tiwary scored 359 runs from 15 matches at an average of 51.28 and a strike rate of 110.46. His highest score was an unbeaten 61 that season, which was also his only half-century in 2011.

Notably, the 2011 season where he scored 359 runs also remains the best IPL season of his career in terms of runs scored. He was also the third-highest run-getter for KKR that season.

In 2012, when the Knight Riders won their maiden IPL title, Manoj Towary did not impress much with the bat. From 16 matches, the right-hander notched up just 260 runs at an average of 26.00. His strike rate of 105.69 was not extraordinary either. He made just one half-century that season as well, scoring 59 runs in a match.

However, Manoj Tiwary was fortunate enough to have remained unbeaten in the final during KKR's run-chase against CSK. He remained unbeaten on nine runs off just three deliveries, smashing two boundaries and playing a key role to finish the game. His second boundary also brought up the winning runs for the Knight Riders, making it a short yet special and crucial cameo in the end.

The 2013 season, however, saw a major dip in his performance. He was able to muster just 146 runs from 10 matches at a poor average of 18.25 and a strike rate of 104.28. Tiwary failed to score a single fifty that season with his best score being 33.

After the 2013 season, he was released by the Knight Riders and never returned to play for the franchise in IPL. That said, his best season, not just for KKR but on a personal level as well, came in 2011 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.

Manoj Tiwary also won the IPL in 2012 with KRR under Gambhir, which remains the major highlight of his career in the cash-rich league.
