Australian opener Usman Khawaja left an appreciative comment on Yashasvi Jaiswal's latest social media post on Monday, January 6. Australia secured a six-wicket victory in the fifth and final Test of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground to win the series 3-1.
Despite India failing to retain the BGT, opener Jaiswal impressed on his debut tour of Australia, finishing as the top run-scorer for the visitors. The left-handed batter accumulated 391 runs in five matches at an average of 43.44, including two fifties and a century.
On Monday, Jaiswal took to Instagram to post some pictures and reflect on his tour experience. He captioned the post:
“Learnt a lot in Australia… Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we had hoped for but we’ll be back stronger. Your support means everything.”
Reacting to the post, Australian opener Khawaja commented:
"Love your work brother.”
Meanwhile, with their 3-1 win over India, Australia secured a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the second consecutive time.
On the other hand, this will be the first time India will not feature in the summit clash. They reached the final in the previous two cycles, only to be defeated by New Zealand and Australia respectively.
“Toughest bowler I’ve ever faced” - Usman Khawaja on Jasprit Bumrah
Following the conclusion of the fifth and final Test of the 2024-25 BGT, Australian opener Usman Khawaja praised Jasprit Bumrah as the toughest bowler he has faced.
The left-hander had a tough series, scoring only 184 runs in 10 innings, with Bumrah dismissing him six times. The Indian pacer finished with 32 wickets and was named the Player of the Series.
Speaking to ABC Sport after the fifth Test, Khawaja said:
"I was just getting Bumrah’d. It’s a shame he was (injured) but thank god for us. Today would’ve been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket. As soon as we didn’t see him out there we thought ‘alright, we’ve got a chance here’. He’s the toughest bowler I’ve ever faced."
The 38-year-old has represented Australia in 78 Tests, scoring 5,635 runs at an average of 44.02, including 27 fifties and 15 centuries.
