Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Bowling first after winning the toss, RR held LSG to 196-5 before cruising to their target in 19 overs.
Trent Boult yet again struck early for Rajasthan, knocking over Quinton de Kock (8) in the first over after the left-arm pacer was hit for consecutive fours. Sandeep Sharma then cleaned up Lucknow's last-match hero Marcus Stoinis for a duck with a ball that zipped through.
Skipper KL Rahul (76 of 48) and Deepak Hooda (50 off 31) lifted the batting side, adding 115 for the third wicket. Rahul reached his fifty in style, hammering Yuzvendra Chahal for a four between long on and deep midwicket. Not long after, Hooda brought up a 30-ball fifty with a single off the same bowler.
The fine stand ended when Hooda miscued a carrom ball from Ravichandran Ashwin to long on.
Nicholas Pooran (11) fell cheaply, top-edging a delivery from Sandeep. Rahul then holed out to deep backward point off Avesh Khan as Lucknow Super Giants failed to get a final flourish.
Sanju Samson stars in RR's thumping win
Chasing 197, RR got off to a brisk start, as Yashasvi Jaiswal (24 off 18) and Jos Buttler (34 off 18) added 60 in 5.5 overs. The impressive stand ended when Buttler was bowled off a low full toss by Yash Thakur, paying the price for walking across his stumps.
Jaiswal perished soon after, slicing a back of length delivery from Stoinis to deep cover. Riyan Parag (14 off 11) whacked Amit Mishra for a six over long on in the ninth over. However, the seasoned LSG leg-spinner had his revenge next ball when Parag sliced another big hit to deep cover.
Sanju Samson (71* off 33) and Dhruv Jurel (52* off 34) added an unbroken 121 for the fourth wicket to lift Rajasthan Royals to another thumping win. While Samson kept finding the boundaries with ease, Jurel took on Mohsin Khan in the 14th over and hit him for three fours and a six.
With no pressure of the run rate, both batters eased past their respective half-centuries. Samson finished off proceedings in style, slamming Thakur for four and six off consecutive deliveries.
