Nitish Kumar Reddy's scintillating century helped India stage a comeback on Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia on Saturday (December 28) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The visiting side batted through the day and reached 358/9 before stumps, reducing the deficit to 116 runs.
Australia began the day well by dismissing Rishabh Pant (28) and Ravindra Jadeja (17) in the first session. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy then joined forces to stitch a 127-run partnership for the eighth wicket by batting for more than 40 overs. Nitish mixed caution perfectly with aggression to notch up his maiden international century, while Sundar complemented him perfectly with a watchful half-century.
Nathan Lyon finally gave a breakthrough for Australia in the 112th over by dismissing Washington Sundar when Nitish was on 97. Things got a little tense in the end as Jasprit Bumrah also departed soon, leaving Reddy stranded on 99 at the non-striker's end. Mohammed Siraj (2*) then played out three deliveries of Pat Cummins, allowing Nitish Kumar Reddy (105*) to reach the milestone in the next over with a lofted drive over mid-on.
Fans enjoyed Nitish's magnificent batting performance on day 3 of the Boxing Day Test. They reacted to it by sharing intriguing memes on X (formerly known as Twitter). One of the fans used a famous dialogue from Allu Arjun's Pushpa movie to praise Nitish Kumar Reddy, which read:
"Nitish Kumar Reddy to Australian bowlers: Main Jhukega Nahi Sala" (I will not bow down).

"This is the last time he will bat at 7"- Ravi Shastri on Nitish Kumar Reddy's batting position in the Indian Test team in BGT 2024-25
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri opined that Nitish Kumar Reddy should bat higher than his current position in the Test line-up following his promising performances in the BGT series.
Shastri felt that Nitish's promotion would help India balance their side well by accommodating five frontline bowlers along with a sixth option. Speaking to Star Sports about Nitish Kumar during the Tea break on day 3, Shastri said: (as quoted by India Today):
"I feel that the way he's batted, this is the last time he will bat at 7. To get the balance of the side, you need him to go higher up the order, either 5 or 6 and then you have the opportunity of playing 5 bowlers to take the 20 wickets, and he's given that kind of confidence to the selectors and the team management and the captain."
He continued:
"Reddy is fully capable of batting in the top 6. Then it changes the whole balance of the game. You go to Sydney with him batting in the top 6, and you're playing five bowlers.”
