Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024: Most Runs and Most Wickets after Sinhalese vs Colombo (Updated) ft. Pavan Rathnayake & Chaturanga de Silva

The Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 had both of its semifinals played on Thursday, August 8, across two venues in Colombo.

In the first semifinal, Ace Capital Cricket Club justified their table-topping tag from Group A by thumping Moors Sports Club by a 98-run margin. Batting first, the Ace Capital line-up was bundled out for just 222 in 49.3 overs. Middle-order batters Sammu Ashan and Wanuja Sahan conjured crafty half-centuries before Danushka Udara cut through the Capital’s lower-half with a four-wicket haul.

In response, Moors Sports Club faltered for just 124 in 25.4 overs. Sithum Disanayaka (4/40) and Nimsara Atharagalla (3/33) inflicted the most damage among the Ace Capital bowlers for orchestrating their big win.

At Colombo’s P Sara Oval, Group B table-leaders Colombo Cricket Club crossed paths with Group A runners-up Sinhalese Sports Club in the second semifinal. Winning the toss and fielding first, Colombo bowlers Chaturanga de Silva (3/41) and Lakshan Sandakan (3/44) skittled out the entire Sinhalese line-up for just 239 in 48.3 overs.

Chasing 240, Colombo Cricket Club consumed only 35.3 overs and lost just two wickets while cantering towards a spot in the final. Wicketkeeper-batter Anjala Bandara belted an unbeaten 60 while number four Pavan Rathnayake smacked 15 boundaries and nine sixes to amass 157* runs from just 117 deliveries.

Pavan Rathnayake blasted an unbeaten 157 in the semifinals to extend his Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 tally to 489 runs. The Colombo Cricket Club batter finds himself more than 100 runs ahead of second-ranked Krishan Sanjula (388 runs) and over 150 runs ahead of third-placed and Colombo teammate Nishan Madushanka (336 runs) on the run-scoring charts.

Moors Sports Club colleagues Janishka Perera and Pasindu Sooriyabandara take the subsequent two slots on the standings with 321 and 311 runs, respectively. Sandun Weerakkody (289 runs), Yashodha Lanka (285 runs), Ron Chandraguptha (279 runs), Ravindu Rasantha (268 runs), and Lahiru Udara (267 runs) occupy the bottom half of the top 10 batters list of the season.

Thanuka Dabare, Dilshan Munaweera and Lasith Embuldeniya take the subsequent three slots on the top 10 bowling charts with 16 wickets each.

Wanuja Sahan, Pasindu Ushettige, Chaminda Bandara, and Nishan Peiris have collected 15 wickets so far to occupy the next four rungs in that order, while Kavika Dilshan and Kalhara Senarathne round up the top 10 bowling table with 14 wickets apiece.
