The Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament 2024 returned after a four-day hiatus on Friday, July 26, with a Group B match between the Kandy Customs and the Colombo Cricket Club. The low-scoring thriller played out at the Thurstan College Ground in Colombo, where the Colombo Cricket Club sealed their run-chase with five wickets to spare.
The outcome helped Colombo Cricket Club strengthen their position at the top of the Group B points table, with five wins and a no-result from six games. They are followed by fellow unbeaten team the Colts Cricket Club at number two, with eight points courtesy of four wins in four matches. The Moors Sports Club take the third spot with three wins and a defeat from four outings.
The Badureliya Sports Club is ranked fourth on the nine-team standings, with five points from four games. The Kandy Customs remained at number five on the list after their defeat to table-toppers Colombo Cricket Club on July 26. Moreover, their NRR took a further beating to slip to -1.090.
With an NRR of -0.740, the Police Sports Club finds itself at number six. The Burgher Recreation Club, also with two points, are placed below the Police Sports Club based on a slightly inferior NRR. The Winless Nugegoda Sports Welfare Club and the Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club occupy the final two spots on the Group B team rankings after the events of July 26.
