Mayank Yadav unlikely to be part IND vs ENG 2025 series due to another injury: Reports

Emerging India speedster Mayank Yadav is doubtful for the upcoming white-ball series against England after facing yet another injury setback. The youngster is reportedly dealing with a back injury that has kept him out of contention for Delhi in the domestic circuit as well.

Mayank Yadav had an eventful 2024, which included a breakthrough Indian Premier League (IPL) season for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), an international debut, and being retained by LSG ahead of the IPL mega auction. Deemed as a huge prospect, his workload has been carefully monitored so far.

He missed the second half of the IPL due to injury, which ruled him out of the tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. The pacer made his highly anticipated debut against Bangladesh at home, ending with four wickets in three matches with an economy rate of 6.92.

"He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a source in the BCCI told TOI.

The white-ball series against England at home, comprising five T20Is and three ODIs, is scheduled to begin from January 22 onwards. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee are likely to unveil the squad for the T20I series in the coming days.

Mayank Yadav has not played competitive cricket since October 2024

Mayank Yadav was considered for the tour of South Africa in November 2024 but was not named in the squad due to injury. His injury issues have kept him out of the white-ball domestic leg, including the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The 22-year-old had reported to the National Centre of Excellence after sustaining the back problem after the series against Bangladesh. The initial assessment was that he would be out for a couple of months, but the recovery is taking longer than anticipated.
