Australia Women's captain Alyssa Healy's dismissal became a talking point during the second WODI in Melbourne against England, as her husband Mitchell Starc was in the commentators' box. In a video that surfaced on social media, Starc's voice could be heard after the wicketkeeper-batter lost her wicket on Tuesday, January 14.
The dismissal occurred in the ninth over of the first innings, as Lauren Bell pitched the ball up and moved it away from the batter, causing it to take the outside edge of Healy's bat. The keeper-batter had to depart for 29 off 19 balls, having struck six boundaries.
Meanwhile, Healy was also present in the commentary box when Starc rolled his arm during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test series against India.
Alyssa Healy and company stun England by successfully defending 180
Australia Women escaped defeat in the opening game of the series by chasing down 204, with four wickets to spare. However, the home side followed it up by putting up only 180 on the board in the second WODI, losing eight wickets for 49 runs. Ellyse Perry top-scored with 60 off 74 deliveries, with Sophie Ecclestone taking four wickets.
With the bat, none of England's top-order players could sustain the pressure applied by the Aussie bowlers. Only Nat Sciver-Brunt went past 20 among the top five England batters. Amy Jones tried her best by staying unbeaten at 47 off 103 deliveries but failed to find enough support at the other end.
Kim Garth and Alana King starred with the ball, sharing seven wickets between them in 10 overs to bowl England out for 159 and fashioning a 21-run victory. The third and final ODI between the two sides will take place on Friday, January 17, in Hobart. Australia and England will also lock horns in three T20Is and a one-off Test as part of the women's Ashes series.
