After successive washouts at Morrisville, the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) season went forward with matches 11 and 12 on Sunday, July 14.
At Church Street Park in Morrisville, Washington Freedom bowlers bundled out the Los Angeles Knight Riders for just 129 after captain Steve Smith won the toss and elected to field first. Fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed top-order batters Sunil Narine and Unmukt Chand before mopping up the Knight Riders' tail to claim figures of 4/35. Glenn Maxwell (3/15) also chipped in with three key wickets while Lockie Ferguson finished with 2/31.
Chasing 130, opener Travis Head whacked six sixes to blaze to a 32-ball 54 before Andries Gous notched up the winning runs for Washington Freedom with eight wickets and four overs to spare alongside captain Steve Smith (42* off 36 balls).
Later in the evening at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas Super Kings accrued 176/6 from 20 overs, largely owing to a captain’s knock from opener Faf du Plessis (61 from 38 balls). Devon Conway also made 40 off 28 balls during his 85-run opening stand with du Plessis and another 36-run partnership with number three Aaron Hardie (17-ball 22).
Among the MI New York bowlers, Trent Boult finished with an expensive two-fer (2/48), while Rashid Khan (1/17) and Ehsan Adil (1/11) stemmed the run-flow in their six collective overs.
In response, MI New York fell 15 runs short of their target despite featuring a 45-ball 61 from Monank Patel and a blistering 23-ball 50 from Rashid Khan. Crumbling in front of Marcus Stoinis (4/50) and Zia-ul-Haq (2/15), the MI New York managed 161/7 to hand Texas Super Kings their second win of the MLC 2024 season.
