India pacer Mohammed Shami was sold to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 10 crore at the IPL 2025 auction on Sunday, November 24. The 34-year-old got a hike of INR 3.5 crore from his previous salary at Gujarat Titans (GT).

The pay hike comes days after Shami shut the former India batter, Sanjay Manjrekar, now commentator, on Instagram for predicting a pay cut for the speedster in his IPL salary at the 2025 auction.

Notably, Shami missed the IPL 2024 due to an ankle injury. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker at the 2023 ODI World Cup, picking up 24 wickets in seven matches.

Earlier this month, he returned to competitive cricket after almost a year-long gap, returning with seven wickets for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.

Fans on X trolled Sanjay Manjrekar as Mohammed Shami got a pay raise at the IPL 2025 auction. One user wrote:

"Shami 1-2 lakh Manjrekar ko Dedena bheek me."

Another user wrote:

"He was born just to get humiliated by other active Indian cricketers."

A third user added:

"Mohammad Shami sold for 10 cr to SRH this time. He was sold for 6.25 cr to Gujarat last time. Mohd Shami goes home as a happy rich guy. Sanjay Manjrekar can eat shit..."

How did Mohammed Shami react to Sanjay Manjrekar ahead of IPL 2025 auction?

Mohammed Shami came up with a blunt message to Sanjay Manjrekar, asking the latter to keep his knowledge to himself. He wrote on Instagram:

“Baba ki jay hoooooo. Thodasa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile [Jai to Baba. You should save some knowledge for your future too, it will be useful Sanjay G? If anyone wants to know about the future, meet sir].”

What Manjrekar said about Mohammed Shami in his IPL 2025 auction predictions (via India Today):

"There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season.”
“If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,” he added.

Mohammed Shami had won the Purple Cap in his last IPL season (2023). This is Shami's fifth IPL franchise after stints with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and GT.
