Mumbai batter breaks Yashasvi Jaiswal's record to become youngest player to score 150-plus in men's List A cricket

Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre has created history by becoming the youngest player to score 150-plus in men's List A cricket. He achieved the feat during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Mumbai and Nagaland at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, December 31.

Mhatre (17 years and 168 days) slammed 181 off 117 balls, a blazing knock that featured 15 fours and 11 sixes. He thus surpassed the previous record for youngest batter to score 150-plus in men's List A cricket, which was held by Yashasvi Jaiswal (17 years and 291 days). The latter had notched up a 150-plus score for Mumbai against Jharkhand in 2019.

Speaking of the Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Mumbai and Nagaland in Ahmedabad, Mumbai ended up posting a mammoth 403-7 in their 50 overs after being sent into bat. Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56 off 66) combined to add 156 runs for the opening wicket. Shardul Thakur, captaining the side, clobbered an unbeaten 73 off 28 balls, hitting two fours and eight sixes.

Chasing a huge target of 404, Nagaland were held to 214-9 in their 50 overs. Jagadeesha Suchith top-scored with 104 off 97 balls, while opener Sedezhalie Rupero contributed 53 off 110 balls. For Mumbai, Thakur claimed three wickets, while Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge picked up two scalps each.

Ayush Mhatre has impressed for Mumbai across formats

Only 17, Mhatre is already beginning to make an impact for Mumbai in domestic cricket. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai against Rest of India in Lucknow in the Irani Trophy in October. The youngster contributed 52 on his Ranji Trophy debut against Baroda.

The right-handed batter excelled for Mumbai against Maharashtra, scoring an impressive 176 off 232 balls, which included 22 fours and four sixes. He also scored a hundred against Services and was also picked for the U-19 Men's Asia Cup, where he scored half-centuries against Japan and UAE. Mhatre also contributed 78 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Karnataka in Ahmedabad.
