Former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu has shared a motivational message for Team India after they suffered a 1-3 defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series.
The defeat left not just the players but also experts and fans dejected. However, Sidhu took to X (formerly Twitter), advising the Indian team to not look back. He added that something might be gaining on them, thus asking the side to maintain a positive mindset.
The defeat comes as another big blow after India previously suffered a 0-3 whitewash in the Test series against New Zealand at home. Both these series losses have led to the downfall of the team's dominance in Test cricket.
Sidhu in his post wrote that the Men in Blue are still the top side in limited-overs cricket. He highlighted the fact that India won the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma. The former cricketer also mentioned that the team has won 14 out of 17 T20Is under Suryakumar Yadav.
He concluded saying that it is much better to look at the brighter side of life.
''Never look back , something might be gaining on you ….. India still top of the 🌍 in limited overs cricket , won the World Cup 2024 under @ImRo45 and has won 14 out of 17 T -20 matches under the dynamic @surya_14kumar 82% wins - post World Cup 2023 won 9 out of 10 matches , result 90% defeating SA and Sri Lanka in their own den …. Sky is the limit for India in the shorter version of the game . Much better to look at the brighter side of life…,'' Sidhu wrote.
India will look to bounce back in the 2025 Champions Trophy
After suffering a heavy defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series, India's chances of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final also came to an end.
However, their focus will now have to shift to the white-ball format right away, with the Champions Trophy soon approaching. India will play their matches in Dubai after a hybrid model was agreed upon as Pakistan is hosting the tournament.
The Men in Blue will have an opportunity to put behind their recent failures in Test cricket with a strong display in the Champions Trophy. They last won an ICC 50-over event in 2013, which was also the Champions Trophy in England.
They came close to winning the ODI World Cup at home in 2023, but suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the final against Australia.
