"Never met anyone so arrogant yet so endearing" - Australian player’s interesting description of Sam Konstas after BGT 2024-25

Senior Australian opener Usman Khawaja has offered an interesting description of Sam Konstas, having opened with him in the last two Tests against India. Khawaja believes no one that he has met is arrogant and endearing at once as Konstas.

The 19-year-old found himself in the middle of some flashpoints in the two Tests he played. He indulged in a verbal altercation with Virat Kohli after the Indian star made a shoulder contact with him on the opening day in the Boxing Day Test.

The right-hander also had a heated exchange with Jasprit Bumrah on the opening day of the final Test. The Indian players sparked into wild celebrations after Khawaja's wicket, moments after the altercation.

Speaking to Darren Lehmann on ABC Sport, the 38-year-old called Konstas a very lovable character and that hardly can anyone take him seriously.

"I’m going to be honest. I’ve never met anyone so arrogant yet so endearing at the same time. I haven’t. But the way he is amongst the group… take away what he’s on the field… amongst the group, he’s a very lovable character. He’s got this sense of being arrogant. But saying it with a smile on his face. You just can’t take it seriously. So. You’ve got to get to know him Boof."

The New South Wales opener breathed life into Australia's top order with a quickfire 60 on his debut innings in Melbourne by playing some audacious strokes against Bumrah. He also played a couple of cameos in Sydney but failed to make a big score.

Meanwhile, Aussie captain Pat Cummins said the youngster's attitude has impressed him and doesn't see any reason behind taking any offense from his confidence.

Cummins stated in the presser after the Sydney Test:

"I’ve been really impressed with how Sam goes about it. I think people mistake a bit of confidence with bullying or abuse. It’s…you’re allowed to walk around with your shoulders puffed back and play a few cricket shots. I don’t think that’s illegal. But some people really take offense to that and want to put him kinda back in his place."

"For us, it’s just for all players, bring yourself in every day. Be yourself. Go about how you think represents yourself best and how you want to play. I think he’s been very good this series."

Australia regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 series victory over Team India.
