Pakistan are set to host the 2025 Champions Trophy in February and March this year. However, recent reports have claimed that the tournament could be shifted out of the country due to the delay in renovation work of the stadiums.

The construction and upgradation work at the three venues - National Stadium in Karachi, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium - are still incomplete, if reports from Times of India are to be believed.

However, an official from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a statement, claiming that the preparations will be completed by the first week of February.

The official stated that they would host the Champions Trophy and that people were trying to tarnish the country's image by spreading rumours.

“All the work (related to stadiums) will be done by the first week of February. Pakistan will successfully host the Champions Trophy. No need to go by any rumours. We are committed to give our best. There are people who are trying to tarnish Pakistan’s image on social media. We know who all they are and why they are doing this," a PCB official told IANS.

While the renovation work at the venues was supposed to be completed by December 31, 2024, Pakistan reportedly missed the deadline. They will now have to hand over the venues to the ICC on February 12.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shifts ODI tri-nation series to Karachi and Lahore

Amid the chaos regarding the preparation of the Champions Trophy venues, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a press release. The board have decided to relocate the upcoming ODI tri-nation series featuring Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand to Karachi and Lahore.

The statement read:

"Given the advanced stage of preparations at Gaddafi Stadium and National Bank Stadium, the PCB has decided to relocate the upcoming tri-nation ODI series to these two venues. The series, featuring New Zealand and South Africa alongside Pakistan, was originally scheduled to be held in Multan.
"This decision reflects the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of these upgraded venues and their ability to deliver a world-class experience for players, officials, and fans alike. Further details regarding the series will be shared in due course."

The series will begin on February 8 and will conclude on February 14. Karachi and Lahore are among the three venues for the Champions Trophy, set to host six of the 12 group-stage matches of the upcoming tournament.
