Team India's batting all-rounder Nitish Reddy has admitted that he is not happy with the way his bowling has shaped up. The 21-year-old added that he is keen on grabbing the all-rounder's slot in the Indian team.

Reddy has been the standout performer for India with the bat in the ongoing Test series against Australia. He is currently the second-leading run-getter in BGT 2024-25, with 293 runs in six innings at an average of 58.60. The right-handed batter notched up his maiden Test ton in the first innings of the ongoing match in Melbourne. However, he has failed to make an impact with his pace bowling.

Speaking to the media after Day 4 of the MCG Test on Sunday, December 29, Reddy admitted that his bowling is not up to the mark. The youngster from Andhra Pradesh said (as quoted by Cricbuzz):

"My expectation was to be a pure all-rounder. I know still I need to work a little bit more on my bowling. I'm still not happy with the way I'm bowling. I hope I come back strong. I want to fulfill that all-rounder slot in the coming days."

While Reddy has been excellent with the willow in BGT 2024-25, with the ball he has managed only three wickets in 35 overs at an average of 49.33.

India face challenging task on Day 5 of the MCG Test

Australia have the edge over India heading into the last day of what has been an absorbing contest at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The hosts recovered from 91-6 in their second innings on Day 4 to head to stumps at 228-9. Australia already have a significant lead of 333. Sharing his thoughts on Day 5, Reddy said:

"If you ask me, I think everyone is capable of playing on this pitch, there is no one not capable of playing and we will come back strong. What we have done in the first innings, we will rectify the mistakes, we will rectify to correct it in the second innings and we will look at it. We have to first take the last wicket and then we will plan accordingly."

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj claimed four and three wickets respectively to reduce Australia to 173-9. However, the last wicket pair of Nathan Lyon (41*) and Scott Boland (10*) added an unbroken 55 runs to frustrate India.
