Team India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson continued his inconsistencies in T20Is with another duck in the third T20I against South Africa in Centurion on November 13. After a sub-par start to his T20I career, resulting in him being in and out of the Indian side, Samson appeared to have found his groove at the top of the order.
The 30-year-old became only the fourth batter in T20I history to score back-to-back centuries in the final Bangladesh T20I at home and the series opener in South Africa. However, he followed that up with a three-ball duck in the second South Africa T20I before the one in the ongoing clash.
Much like the second T20I, Samson was cleaned up in the opening over by Marco Jansen and all the painful memories of his earlier struggles returned.
A second consecutive no-score was not spared by fans on Twitter who slammed the Kerala batter with the following reactions:
Fans continued to come down hard on Samson with one saying:
"Sanju Samson loves digital electronics. He loves binary numbers. Just binary numbers."
"Another 0 for Sanju Samson. Now if he is dropped his father will abuse Gambhir and Surya Kumar Yadav," tweeted a fan.
"Sanju samson is hopeless to say the least, blud doesn’t know that numbers exist between zero & hundred," a fan said.
Team India make stunning recovery after Sanju Samson's early departure
Team India made a sensational recovery through counter-attacking batting despite the early loss of Sanju Samson.
Coming in at 0/1 after two deliveries, Tilak Varma made his intentions clear with a boundary and a maximum in the same over. Abhishek Sharma seemed to have taken inspiration from Tilak's early aggression as he raced to 14 from six deliveries after the second over of the innings.
The duo then went toe to toe in dispatching the South African bowlers, taking India to an incredible 70/1 after the powerplay.
Abhishek brought up a spectacular half-century off only 24 deliveries to cap off a stunning return to form. However, Keshav Maharaj finally ended the carnage by dismissing the opening batter for 50.
Nevertheless, the Men in Blue are well placed at 107/2 in nine overs with the Mumbai Indians duo of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease.
With the series tied at 1-1, the winner of this contest will take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the best-of-four T20I series.
