Arshad Nadeem won gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics
Nadeem won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event of the 2024 Olympics held in Paris, edging out India's Neeraj Chopra, who won silver, in the final. By doing so, Nadeem became the first individual athlete from Pakistan to win an Olympic gold medal. The 27-year-old also set a new Olympic record of 92.97 meters.
In the 2020 Olympics, held in Tokyo in 2021, Nadeem finished fifth, missing out on getting to the podium in his debut in the quadrennial event. He is among the most widely respected athletes in Pakistan, as well as the entire Indian subcontinent, and shares a heartwarming relationship with fierce rival Chopra.
Interestingly, it has been reported that Nadeem had earlier wished to become a cricketer, but changed his mind to become a javelin thrower in 2015.
