Australia spinner Nathan Lyon gave his two cents on Yashasvi Jaiswal's run-out, involving former India skipper Virat Kohli, after day two of the fourth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne. The horror dismissal garnered a lot of attention as the Indian duo undid their hard work in the last half an hour of the day's play on Friday, December 27.
Lyon took a subtle dig at the incident, terming the run-out as 'one of the best barbecues' he had seen. The spinner also talked about how pressure makes people do funny things and that the run-out was a special moment from an Australian perspective.
“It was probably one of the best barbecues I’ve seen, to be honest with you. It came out of the blue. They were doing it pretty easy out there … Pressure does funny things. Silly run-outs are coach killers, aren’t they? It was pretty special,” Lyon told ABC Radio’s Grandstand at Stumps show after the end of play on Day 2 in Melbourne.
Here is the video of the run-out of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the second day of the ongoing MCG Test:
Yashasvi Jaiswal misses out on ton as India lose quick wickets by the end of play on Day 2
Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting on 82 when he was unfortunately run out. His mix-up with Virat Kohli saw hum miss out on what would have been a well-deserved hundred at the MCG.
Moreover, India soon lost two more wickets in quick succession as Virat and Akash Deep were sent back. Kohli, who got to 36 and looked solid, failed to bat through the day as India eventually ended on 164/5, trailing the hosts by 310 runs.
Jaiswal and Kohli had stitched together a 102-run stand to keep the visitors in the game. However, after the run-out, the Australians came back in the game by the end of play on Day 2.
