Pakistan have been penalised five ICC World Test Championship points and fined 25 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the New Year's Test at the Newlands in Cape Town. Following this, Pakistan's World Test Championship points percentage has now come down to 24.31.

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. Also, a side is penalised one point for each over short, according to Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions.

The visitors were found to be five overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. Captain Shan Masood pleaded guilty and accepted Match Referee Richie Richardson's proposed sanction.

South Africa whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series

In the Cape Town Test, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite getting bowled out for just 194 runs in their first innings in reply to the hosts' mammoth total of 615 runs, Pakistan fought back well in the second innings to post 478 runs after being asked to follow on.

But it wasn't enough to set up a challenging target for the Proteas who chased down the required 58 runs in just 7.1 overs without the loss of a wicket to whitewash the visitors 2-0 in the two-match series.

South Africa had won the first Test match in Centurion by two wickets and ensured their place in the 2025 World Test Championship Final.

They will now face Australia for the title in the summit clash which will be played from June 11-15 at Lord's in London. Australia secured their spot in the final after defeating India in the fifth Border Gavaskar Trophy Test match in Sydney by six wickets on Sunday, January 5.
