Who is Tom Marsden?
Tom Marsden is an English first-class cricketer. He was born on September 12, 1803, with a career spanning 15 years from 1826 to 1843.
He made his debut for Sheffield & Leicester county club in 1826 and registered a score of 227 on debut against Nottingham at the Darnall New Ground, Sheffield. He played 55 first-class games for his county side, scoring 1724 runs and picking up 97 wickets. His score of 227 was the highest he had scored, along with another hundred.
Marsden was known to be a renowned hitter of the ball, with people writing poems about him. It is said that in 1833, he lost against Fuller Pilch in a single-wicket competition for the Championship of England and lost the contest. Marsden died on February 27, 1843, at the age of 39 years.
