Virat Kohli threw away his wicket while poking around the off-stump channel again on Day 2 (Friday, December 27) of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne. The right-handed batter looked good for 36 off 85 balls, leaving a majority of deliveries outside off stump.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's run out affected his concentration and he played outside the off-stump line off Scott Boland before wicketkeeper Alex Carey completed formalities. This was the fifth instance (all his dismissals) that Kohli departed behind the wicket, thrice to Carey and twice to slip cordon, in the five-game Test series.

With 36, Kohli continued his lean patch following his ton in the first Test in Perth. Since then, he has returned with scores of seven, 11, three, and 36 (today).

Fans on X were disappointed with the strange innings from Kohli, where he threw away his wicket after getting well set. One user wrote sarcastically:

"Instant karma for Virat Kohli."

Another user wrote:

"If a genius, a legend like Virat Kohli doesn't know where is the 'corridor of uncertainty ', it is most unfortunate. For the last 4 matches, except one innings he is getting out either caught behind or at the slip corridor."

A third user added:

"Virat Kohli ne jaiswal ko run out kiya jo 82 pe tha aur phir khud bhi out hogaya. Isko bolte he Satyanash karna (Virat Kohli ran out Jaiswal who was on 82 and then got out himself. This is called destruction)."
