RCB captain reaches massive landmark to go second on run-getters list in IND vs IRE 2025 1st ODI

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women’s team captain Smriti Mandhana achieved a massive landmark during the first ODI between India and Ireland in Rajkot on Friday, January 10. The left-hander became only the second player to reach 4,000 runs among Indians in the 50-over format. She has scored nine tons and 29 half-centuries in ODIs so far.

The 28-year-old achieved the landmark during her 41-run knock against the Irish, needing only 40 runs. She scaled the feat during her 95th ODI, becoming the fastest Indian to do so. The southpaw has also amassed 629 runs in seven Tests, comprising two tons and three half-centuries.

Former India captain Mithali Raj had achieved the landmark in her 112th innings. Overall, Australia’s Belinda Clarke holds the record for fastest 4,000 runs in ODIs.

Overall, Mithali Raj holds the record for most runs in women's ODIs with 7,805 runs in 232 matches, including seven centuries and 64 fifties. India’s incumbent skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is third on the list among Indians, amassing 3,803 runs in 141 ODIs. She has been rested for the ongoing ODI series.

Besides WODIs, Smriti Mandhana is also second in the highest run-getters in T20Is, scoring 3761 runs in 148 matches, hitting 30 fifties. New Zealand’s Suzie Bates tops the chart with 4584 runs in 171 games.

Smriti Mandhana is the only Indian player in the top 10 of the ICC ODI rankings for batters. She is currently third with 720 rating points, behind Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaadrt (773) and Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu (733).

Mandhana consolidated her place in the top three after scoring 148 runs at an average of 49.33 in the three-match ODI series against West Indies. She was recently nominated for the ICC’s Women’s Player of the Month award for December.
