Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by five wickets in yesterday's IPL 2025 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Bowling first after winning the toss in the match reduced to 14 overs due to rain, PBKS held RCB to 95-9 and then chased down the target in 12.1 overs.
Punjab's bowlers dominated proceedings in exceptional fashion to reduce Bengaluru to 42-7 inside nine overs. Phil Salt (4) was caught off Arshdeep Singh in the first over, miscuing an attempted big hit. Kohli (1) also perished to the left-arm pacer, slicing a length delivery. RCB were three down for 26 when Liam Livingstone (4) mistimed a heave off Xavier Bartlett.
The procession of wickets continued as Jitesh Sharma (2) top-edged a slog sweep off Yuzvendra Chahal. Krunal Pandya (1) then nicked a short ball from Marco Jansen. RCB skipper Rajat Patidar (23) was the next to go, caught at long-off as he tried to go after Chahal.
The batting side were soon reduced to 63-9. However, Tim David (50* off 26) played a brilliant counter-attacking knock to give Bengaluru's bowlers something to bowl at. The dangerous batter hammered Harpreet Brar for three successive sixes in the 14th over.

Chasing a target of 96, Punjab got off to a nervous start. After hitting consecutive fours off Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Prabhsimran Singh (13) sliced a short of length delivery from the RCB pacer to the right of mid-off. Priyansh Arya (16) also gave a simple catch to mid-off, miscuing a length ball from Josh Hazlewood.
Hazlewood produced a brute outside off stump, getting some extra bounce, and forced PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer (7) to nick the delivery to the keeper. In the same over, Josh Inglis (14) was caught at deep third man. Nehal Wadhera (33* off 19), though, played an impressive cameo under pressure to guide his team home.
The left-hander took on Suyash Sharma in the ninth over and clubbed him for a four and a six. He smashed two more boundaries in the leg spinner's next over. Marcus Stoinis (7*) finished off the match in style, launching left-arm pacer Yash Dayal for a maximum to wide long-on.

Arshdeep, Jansen, Chahal and Brar all claimed two wickets each for PBKS. In the chase, Wadhera played a fine hand. For RCB, David scored a scintillating fifty. Hazlewood claimed three wickets and Bhuvneshwar two. Despite Bengaluru losing the game, David was named Player of the Match half-century and two catches.
