India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was seen at Delhi Airport on Tuesday night (January 7), as he returned after the conclusion of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia, which included five Test matches.
While most of the team members left Australia on Wednesday, January 8, Pant arrived a day earlier.
Here's a video of Rishabh Pant at Delhi Airport:
India began the tour on a strong note, securing a convincing 295-run victory in the first Test in Perth. However, things took a turn after that, as they suffered a 10-wicket loss in the second Test, while the third game in Brisbane (heavily affected by rain) ended in a draw.
India couldn't keep their composure and lost the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne on the final day, with just 12 overs remaining. Meanwhile, Australia maintained their dominance, securing a six-wicket victory in the final Test in Sydney to take the series 3-1.
With this win, Australia sealed their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, joining South Africa. This marks the first time India have failed to qualify for the summit clash.
Rishabh Pant had a forgettable 2024-25 BGT
The 27-year-old explosive batter showed glimpses of his potential throughout the series but couldn't convert his starts into big scores, except for his final innings in the fifth Test.
In India's second innings of the Sydney Test, Pant went on an aggressive spree, smashing a quick-fire 50 off 29 balls. He finished with 61 runs from 33 balls, including six fours and four sixes.
Overall, he scored 255 runs in nine innings, averaging 28.33, with one half-century. Rishabh Pant has now played 43 Tests for India, scoring 2,948 runs at an average of 42.11, with 15 fifties and six centuries to his name.
The Men in Blue are set to host England in a series of five T20Is and three ODIs ahead of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy. It will be interesting to see if Pant makes the squad for the upcoming matches.
