Rising star of Indian cricket, spinner Shreyanka Patil has been nominated for the ICC Women's Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2024 Award. Apart from the 22-year-old Shreyanka, three other cricketers nominated for the prestigious award are South African's Annerie Dercksen, Scotland's Saskia Horley and Ireland's Freya Sargent.
While Annerie Dercksen's tally over the last 12 months looks like 161 runs and five wickets in T20Is, 60 runs in Tests, 70 runs and six wickets in the ODIs, Saskia Horley amassed 142 runs in T20Is and 276 ODI runs including three wickets in the shortest format. She also has five scalps in the 50-over format of the game. Freya Sargent finished the year with 13 and seven wickets in ODIs and T20I respectively.
Meanwhile, in the 13 T20Is Shreyanka Patil played throughout the year, she picked up 15 wickets in addition to her tally of four scalps in two ODIs. She was also a part of India's 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup squad where she managed four wickets in as many games for her nation.
Shreyanka Patil - the first player from India to feature in Women’s Caribbean Premier League
Meanwhile, Shreyanka Patil created history last year, becoming the first-ever Indian player to feature in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) when she turned out for the Guyana Amazon Warriors Women. Shreyanka went on to finish the tournament at the top of the bowling charts, having taken nine wickets in five matches. Her team, though, unfortunately emerged runners-up losing the final against the Barbados Royals Women.
She replicated her phenomenal performance with the ball at this year's Women's Premier League (WPL), finishing season two as the highest wicket-taker with 13 scalps to her name.
A vital cog in Royal Challengers Bangalore's 2024 WPL title triumph, Shreyanka Patil produced a splendid display of bowling in the final, picking up four wickets for 12 runs in her 3.3 over spell against the Delhi Capitals to help Smriti Mandhana-led side restrict the opposition to 113 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Later, RCB chased down the target of 114 runs and clinched their maiden WPL crown in New Delhi.
