Team India captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are set for a meeting with top BCCI officials to address and dissect the 1-3 series defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar series 2024-25. After a chaotic set of matches Down Under, the Men in Blue failed to retain the trophy and missed out on qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
According to a report by the Times of India, the meeting is scheduled to be held at the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on the evening of Saturday, January 11. Several questions surrounding the team's performance, selection, and atmosphere are expected to be addressed during the meeting.
"BCCI review meeting of India's tour of Australia today in Mumbai at BCCI HQ in Mumbai at 5 pm. Captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir & chief selector Ajit Agarkar set to meet top BCCI officials," the report read.
Team India had secured a 1-0 series lead by winning the first Test in Perth by 295 runs but a 10-wicket defeat in the pink ball Test at the Adelaide Oval, coupled with losses in Melbourne and Sydney, led to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy going back to Australia's grasp.
The tour was marred by reports of unrest within the dressing room amid several players struggling for form. Skipper Rohit Sharma had opted out of the series finale, sparking a wide array of rumors regarding his future in the red-ball team.
Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Ajit Agarkar met the BCCI Officials after Team India's whitewash against New Zealand
The BCCI had summoned the key figures of the team in the aftermath of the humbling whitewash against New Zealand at home in 2024. On that occasion, the meeting lasted six hours, with the performance review led by the BCCI President Roger Binny, and then-secretary Jay Shah.
The decision to dish out rank turners and Gambhir's coaching style were key topics on the agenda back then.
