Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg reckons that India captain Rohit Sharma's Test career is probably inching towards the end. Hogg pointed out how the 37-year-old has failed to deliver in Tests over the last six to seven months. The 53-year-old also questioned the nature of his dismissals as an opener.

The remarks came as Rohit managed to score just 31 runs in five innings in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The senior batter has managed just 164 runs in his last 15 Test innings at an average of 10.93, including one half-century.

The cricketer-turned-commentator said on his YouTube channel:

"I think Rohit Sharma is probably finished right now out in Test level. He should have moved on. His form over the last 6-7 months has not been great."
"He is getting bowled, LBW and as an opener, those type of dismissals shouldn’t be happening early on in the innings. LBW, yes, but shouldn’t be getting bowled between bat and pad," he added.

"Should’ve done it in the Melbourne Test" - Brad Hogg on Rohit Sharma's decision to step away from 5th 2024-25 BGT in Sydney

Brad Hogg further lauded Rohit Sharma for his decision to leave his place in the playing XI for the fifth and final Test in Sydney. He, however, pointed out that Rohit should've done it in the fourth Test in Melbourne where he promoted himself to open but flopped in both innings.

Hogg said in the aforementioned interview:

"It’s a little bit disappointing with the form now and I think the red-ball game, he did the right thing in Australia, probably should’ve done it in the Melbourne Test and let Gill play in that Test as well."

Brag Hogg, meanwhile, has backed Rohit to deliver in the 50-over format ahead of the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy. He added:

"When it comes to ODI cricket, I still think he’s got a lot to offer. You can play a little bit more aggressively and with freedom as well. But age is starting to be wrong side of the ledger for Rohit Sharma. He’s had a wonderful career, there’s no doubt about that. I hope for his and India’s sake, he just it on a high whenever he wants to."

Rohit Sharma is likely to be next seen in action in the three-match ODI series against England in February.
