Inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals have locked in six players as their retentions for IPL 2025. The Royals have retained their skipper Sanju Samson for ₹18 crore. Even youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has received a massive ₹18 crore deal from RR.
Two other rising stars of Indian cricket, namely Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel, have received contracts worth ₹14 crore each from the Jaipur-based franchise. RR have also opted to retain Sandeep Sharma as an 'uncapped' player for ₹4 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Interestingly, the Royals have retained only one overseas player from their IPL 2024 squad. Despite having some of the biggest names of T20 cricket like Jos Buttler, Trent Boult, Obed McCoy and Keshav Maharaj in their squad, RR have preferred to retain Shimron Hetmyer for ₹11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
The decision to retain Hetmyer over Buttler has raised a few eyebrows because the latter even plays for Royals-owned franchises in other T20 leagues. However, it looks like Buttler's unavailability for the IPL during England's matches, injury concerns, and the presence of two other quality wicketkeepers has prompted RR to let go of him.
RR will enter the mega auction with zero RTM cards. They have filled up all six retention spots before the mega auction, which is why they cannot use the RTM at the auction table.
List of players retained by RR with price tag
- Sanju Samson - ₹18 crore
- Yashasvi Jaiswal - ₹18 crore
- Dhruv Jurel - ₹14 crore
- Riyan Parag - ₹14 crore
- Shimron Hetmyer - ₹11 crore
- Sandeep Sharma - ₹4 crore
RR purse for IPL 2025 Auction
The Rajasthan Royals have the lowest purse value remaining before the IPL mega auction. The inaugural champions will enter the auction with just ₹41 crore to spend. With many overseas spots left to fill, RR will be in trouble if they end up overspending on any player.
