Team India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets (DLS method) in the second T20I on Sunday, July 28, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, drawing hilarious reactions from fans on the internet. Courtesy of the comfortable win, India took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series. Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir began their respective stints as captain and coach with a comfortable series victory.
After being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka managed to score 161/9 in 20 overs on the back of contributions from Kusal Perera (53), Pathum Nissanka (32), and Kamindu Mendis (26). Ravi Bishnoi (3/26), Axar Patel (2/30), Hardik Pandya (2/23), and Arshdeep Singh (2/24) were among the wickets for the visiting side.
Rain interrupted the proceedings during the first over of the chase and caused a long delay. After resumption, the match was reduced to an eight-over affair, with a target of 78 for India, according to the DLS method.
Maheesh Theekshana cleaned up Sanju Samson for a first-ball duck in the second over and provided Sri Lanka with a brilliant start. However, Suryakumar Yadav (26) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) played cameos to set up the platform for India in the chase. After their departures, Hardik Pandya finished things off in the seventh over with a blazing knock of 22* (9).

"I am really disappointed with the way we have batted in the death overs" - Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka after loss vs India in 2nd T20I
At the post-match presentation, Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka reflected on the loss, saying (via ESPNcricinfo):
"Definitely I am really disappointed with the way we have batted in the death overs. We should be improving our batting, especially the middle order including me. Yeah there was a reason for choosing extra spinner. This pitch when the ball gets older it gets hard to bat."
He continued:
"As professional cricketers, we have to perform better. The way we have approached things in the last five years, we have to go back to the basics. We were at least behind by 15-18 runs. The weather also played a role. We cannot control that. The outfield became wet after the long rain break."
The two teams will square off in the final T20I of the series on Tuesday (July 30) at the same venue.
