Team India's young sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy continued the excellent start to his Test career with another valiant batting effort on Day 3 of the second Australia Test in Adelaide. The 21-year-old scored a valiant 47-ball 42 in India's second innings to help them avoid an innings defeat.
As has been the case over the first two Tests, Nitish could not complete his maiden Test half-century, thanks to running out of partners and throwing his bat at everything in the quest for quick runs.
With three 40s and a 38* in the four innings across the first two Tests, the youngster has helped himself to an incredible Test average of 54.33. Beyond the numbers, Nitish's ability to stand up to the world-class Aussie bowlers in challenging batting conditions across both Tests has stood out.
Fans on X expressed their admiration for the up-and-coming Nitish Kumar Reddy with the following reactions:
Fans continued praising Nitish Reddy for his valiant effort with one saying:
"Nitish Reddy has a bright future ahead. Just checked and he was born in 2003. Debuting in Test cricket at the age of 21 not in India and showing potential in Perth and now in Adelaide. Very very bright future ahead."
"Amidst the rubble, India finds a diamond in Nitish Kumar Reddy," tweeted a fan.
"Nitish Reddy is showing the way to bat to the so-called seniors of the Indian team. If @ImRo45, @imVkohli and @ashwinravi99 have any integrity left they need to sit out the next test and give the youngsters a chance," a fan said.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's defiance goes in vain as India suffer massive defeat in Adelaide
Despite Nitish Kumar Reddy's valiant efforts with the bat in both innings, Team India suffered a 10-wicket defeat in the second Australia Test at Adelaide. Coming off the sensational victory in the series opener at Perth, India were let down by horrific batting displays in both innings.
After winning a second consecutive toss and batting first, Rohit Sharma's men scored only 180 in the first innings. While the bowling unit fought admirably, the hosts finished with a formidable 337, resulting in an overall lead of 157.
The story was similar for India in their second innings with the top order offering little resistance as they were eventually bowled out for 175.
Australia completed a simple run-chase of 19 with all 10 wickets intact to level the five-match series 1-1.
