Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin had a cheeky reaction to the controversial umpiring decisions in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Ashwin joked that the snicko meters probably did not work properly at higher altitudes, which is why the third umpire made the decision he made.
During the 71st over of India's second innings at the MCG, Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to smack a short delivery from Pat Cummins over the fine-leg region. However, he could not connect the ball the way he wanted, and the ball went straight to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Cummins and Carey appealed for a caught-behind dismissal, but the on-field umpire ruled Jaiswal not out. Australia asked for a review. Although there wasn't overwhelming evidence to reverse the decision, the third umpire adjudged Jaiswal out, leaving the Indian batter furious.
The snicko meter did not show any spike when the ball passed through the bat, but there was a deflection when watching the ball go through to the wicketkeeper.
Sharing his take on this controversy, Ravichandran Ashwin wrote on his Instagram story:
"Snicko meter doesn't work on higher altitudes. All said and done, there was a deflection on this one to go with a ball mark."
While there have been mixed reactions to the umpiring decision, Jaiswal was adjudged out, and India ended up losing the match by 184 runs. Even Sunil Gavaskar was not happy with the way the third umpire reversed the decision.

The former Indian all-rounder had another hilarious take on the Snicko Meter controversy. He posted a picture of the third umpire Sharfuddoula and wrote that the Snicko Meter company should hire him as their brand ambassador.
"Snickometer is trending now. They should capitalise on this frenzy by signing up this man as their brand ambassador. Just for laughs," the former Indian player joked on X.
Ravichandran Ashwin's tweet quickly went viral on the social media platform. The post has received close to 14,000 likes and 500 replies within just two hours on X already.
